Businessmen on Saturday besieged Chittagong Kotwali Police Station for half an hour as police picked up one of their fellows.
The business activities in Khatunganj remained suspended for around four hours following the besiege incident. Later, normalcy returned in the commercial hub of the port city at about 1:00pm.
Earlier, about 100 traders laid siege to the police station at about 11:00am as Mir Md Hasan was detained by police Friday night.
They also brought out a procession on different city roads, reports our staff correspondent in Chittagong.
Khatunganj Trade and Industries Association is holding a meeting at its office regarding the issues.
The businessmen brought allegations of extortion against policemen, saying that the law enforcers wanted Tk 20 lakh in toll from Hasan.
However, Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said they picked up the trader for interrogation as he is accused in a kidnapping case.
